Serving Cacao is for me more than a ritual - it is a way to serve people, to embody love, and to create spaces where joy and beauty can flourish, while warming hearts one cup at a time. Through this sacred act of serving Cacao, in my cacao ceremonies I invite you to experience the magic of love, to enjoy the beauty of the present moment, and to find comfort in the simple pleasures of life.
Cacao beans contain over 300 different compounds that contribute to their unique flavour and health benefits. From antioxidants like flavonoids to mood-boosting chemicals like serotonin, Cacao is truly a superfood for both the body and the soul.
Cacao is the raw material from which chocolate is made, yet the chocolate we are used to consuming contains very little of cacao. The cacao we drink in ceremony is its purest form. It comes from the seeds within the cacao pod, which are fermented, dried, and lightly roasted before being peeled and ground into a paste. From this cacao paste, I prepare the drink served in ceremony. Nothing is added, and nothing is taken away — it is the seed in its wholeness.
Cacao is a powerful teacher plant, yet one that works in gentle, gradual ways. When consumed with respect, reverence, and clear intention, it supports a deepening relationship that can expand the mind and open the heart. Cacao is a true heart medicine: it improves cardiovascular health through its vasodilating properties, relaxes the muscles, and enhances the brain’s absorption of ‘feel-good chemicals,’ creating a gentle state of openness and calmness. You may feel a subtle ‘high,’ but cacao does not take you out of your body — it brings you more fully into it, into the present moment, and often brings to the surface just what you need at that time.
Theobroma Cacao, the scientific name of the cacao tree, literally means ‘Food of the Gods.’ While this name was later given by the botanist Carl Linnaeus in the 18th century, it reflects the deep value and reverence that the indigenous peoples of Central and South America held for this plant medicine. For many ancient traditions, cacao was not only valued for its healing properties but also revered as a sacred element woven into their culture, daily life, and cosmology itself.
As magical as it sounds, Sacred Cacao set me on this path, and thanks to this teacher plant I am sharing this with you today. I firmly believe that I didn’t find Cacao, but that Cacao found me — and she has truly transformed my life. This sacred plant connected me to my dreams, while gifting me the courage and inspiration to follow them. Thanks to Cacao, I now follow the call of my heart. This call leads me to embody and radiate Love in this world, being in service by supporting others to remember their wholeness, re-discover their inner wisdom, and listen to the whispers of their hearts — for there lies truth.
